Meet Sarah Burris

Sarah-BurrisBy day, I am a writer, commentator and digital media troublemaker for RawStory.com and occasionally author pieces about issues pertaining to young people and progressive policy.

I previously worked as a digital editor for Alternet.org, writer at Salon.com, digital editor at BlueNationReview and co-edited Future Majority. I wrote for Wiretap Magazine youth site to parent publications The Nation and Mother Jones. Under the direction of Rock the Vote’s Rock the Trail, I got the amazing opportunity to cover the 2008 Presidential election from the Iowa Caucuses, South Caroline Primary, Super Tuesday, the Democratic Convention in Denver, the Republican Convention in St. Paul, and the first Presidential Debate at Ole Miss – just to name a few.

Up until 2008 I worked as a fundraising professional working on Congressional and statewide campaigns, for consulting firms offering general consulting and direct mail, and as Development Director for Skyline Public Works. Since 2008, I have enjoyed returning to my creative passions in a digital and social media while writing and commenting on the politics of the day.

I worked for nearly two years as the Media Director on the Oklahoma Governor’s race in 2010, nearly two years as Digital Director at the labor union UNITE HERE, as well as EMILY’s List and Daily Kos. I often consult for candidates and campaigns in my home state and in other red states.

You can follow me on Twitter, LIKE on Facebook, and follow on Instagram, Tumblr and Pinterest.

By night, I love hiking, photography, discovering great architecture and I know an absurd of information about Harry Potter.
